Bus Accident: Death toll rises to 11

The death toll in the bus accident which occurred last evening in Manampitiya, Polonnaruwa has increased to 11.

The death toll in the bus accident which occurred last evening in Manampitiya, Polonnaruwa has increased to 11.

Around 40 persons have also sustained injuries with some in critical condition. Police said among the dead were one female and 10 males.

The Police Media Division said a bus plying to Kattankudy from Polonnaruwa had collided onto the Kotaleeya Bridge in Manampitiya and crashed into a river at around 7.30pm yesterday.

A group of injured persons were rushed to the Manampitiya and Polonnaruwa hospitals. Police based on eyewitness counts believe around 67 persons were travelling in the bus, at the time of the accident.
