New Delhi, April 15 — Maruti Suzuki is set to shake up the Indian hybrid car market with the upcoming Fronx Hybrid, expected to deliver an astonishing fuel efficiency of 35 km/l, making it one of the most economical cars in its segment. The highly anticipated model is slated for launch in 2026 and has already been spotted undergoing road tests.
With the Fronx Hybrid, Maruti Suzuki continues to expand its eco-friendly portfolio, which already includes hybrid versions of the Grand Vitara and Invicto. However, unlike its previous ventures that heavily relied on Toyota's hybrid technology, the Fronx Hybrid will feature an in-house developed powertrain, signaling a strategic shift in the company’s technological approach.
Design & Features: Familiar Yet Upgraded
In terms of aesthetics, the Fronx Hybrid is expected to retain the core design of the standard Fronx, maintaining its bold and modern SUV-coupe styling. While the interior will likely mirror the current model, a digital instrument cluster exclusive to the Hybrid variant is expected to offer a more tech-forward cabin experience.
Under the Hood: All-New Z12 Engine
Powering the Fronx Hybrid will be Maruti Suzuki’s new Z12 engine, the same unit that is featured in the next-generation Swift. This powerplant, paired with a strong hybrid system, will utilize a battery and electric motor setup to assist the petrol engine, improving both performance and efficiency. Currently, the standard Fronx runs on a 1.2-liter petrol engine, delivering 89.73 hp and 113 Nm of torque, with a fuel economy of up to 22.89 km/l. The hybrid model’s claimed 35 km/l fuel efficiency would represent a significant leap forward, making it an attractive option for mileage-conscious Indian buyers.
