MS Dhoni Scripts History, Becomes First Player with 200 Dismissals in IPL

April 14, 2025 — Lucknow: Legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni added yet another milestone to his glittering career, becoming the first player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to record 200 dismissals behind the stumps. The iconic Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain achieved the feat during Match 30 of IPL 2025 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium.

The landmark moment came in the 14th over of LSG’s innings when Ayush Badoni was stumped off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. It was Dhoni’s 200th dismissal in the tournament — a record that cements his legacy as the greatest gloveman in IPL history.

Dhoni’s Record-Breaking Glovework

The 42-year-old wicketkeeper finished the night with three dismissals to his name:

  • Stumping Ayush Badoni (200th dismissal),

  • Catching Rishabh Pant (63 off 49),

  • Run out of Abdul Samad, in a moment of brilliance, collecting a wide down the leg side and hitting the stumps at the non-striker’s end directly.

With this performance, Dhoni now has 201 dismissals in 270 IPL innings, comprising:

  • 155 catches

  • 46 stumpings

He leads the chart of most dismissals by a wicketkeeper or fielder in IPL history, ahead of:

  • Dinesh Karthik – 182

  • AB de Villiers – 126

  • Robin Uthappa – 124

  • Wriddhiman Saha – 118

  • Virat Kohli – 116

Match Summary: LSG Post Respectable Total

While Dhoni’s brilliance stole the spotlight, Rishabh Pant led LSG with a steady 63 off 49 deliveries, returning to form after a lean patch. He was well supported by:

  • Mitchell Marsh – 30 (25)

  • Ayush Badoni – 22 (17)

  • Abdul Samad – 20 (11)

The Super Giants posted a competitive 166/7 in their 20 overs. For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja returned with figures of 2/24, while Matheesha Pathirana grabbed 2/45. Anshul Kamboj (1/20) and Noor Ahmad (0/13) also impressed with economical spells.

A Legacy Etched in Gold

MS Dhoni’s record is a testament to his longevity, consistency, and unmatched cricketing awareness. Having already lifted the IPL trophy five times and now standing alone as the only player with over 200 dismissals, Dhoni continues to carve his name deeper into IPL folklore.

As the 2025 season unfolds, fans and pundits alike will watch closely to see how many more records the CSK talisman adds to his name before the curtain eventually falls on a truly legendary career.
