Suryakumar Yadav Set for Duleep Trophy Return After Injury, Eyes Bangladesh T20Is
Suryakumar Yadav, who missed the opening round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 due to a hand injury, is set to return for the second round of the tournament.

Suryakumar Yadav, who missed the opening round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 due to a hand injury, is set to return for the second round of the tournament. The injury, which he sustained while fielding in the Buchi Babu Invitational match against TNCA XI, kept him out of action, but his recovery has been promising. According to the BCCI, further evaluation by the medical team next week will determine his availability.
Surya, who was slated to represent India C in the Duleep Trophy opener against India D, had to withdraw due to his thumb injury. He was sent to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further assessment and treatment, with the medical staff closely monitoring his recovery. As per reports, both the NCA medical team and Surya himself are pleased with the progress.
"Surya’s recovery is going well. He is almost 100 percent and he knows it," a BCCI source revealed.
Suryakumar's potential return could come in India C's next match against India B, marking his first red-ball appearance in over 14 months. His performance in the Duleep Trophy could reignite hopes for his Test career, where he has struggled to replicate his T20I success. Surya made his Test debut against Australia last year but played only one Test before an injury sidelined him.
As India prepares for the Bangladesh T20I series, Surya’s form and fitness will be crucial. While the BCCI hasn't named any replacement for him in the Duleep Trophy squad, his inclusion in the latter stages remains a possibility.
