Sri Lanka to have water pricing formula; Minister Jeevan Thondaman

Colombo, Nov 29 (News21) – Sri Lanka is developing a price formula for the state-run Water Board, with higher prices to be charged from commercial customers, Water Supply Minister Jeevan Thondaman has said.
The draft price formula is expected to be finalized in December and religious, hospitals and schools are likely be given lower tariffs, Minister Thondaman was quoted as telling reporters at the President’s Media Centre.
Higher tariffs are likely to be charged from commercial establishments. Domestic customers were 75 percent and Samurdhi were 1.58 percent and the government “aims to prioritize these sectors over industries, albeit without pressuring them,” the statement said.
A meeting has been requested withs State Minister for Investment Minister Dilum Amunugama and State Minister for Finance Shehan Semasinghe to discuss the matter, he said.
