Jaffna farmer Chelliah Thiruchelvam sets new record
A 60-year-old farmer from Jaffna, Chelliah Thiruchelvam, pulled a 1,550 kg Tata Ace for 500 metres with his beard and 500 metres with his hair, thus setting a new Cholan world record on Sunday (24).

Sri Nagavani Raja, Vice President of Sri Lanka Branch of Cholan Book of World Records (CBWR) and Indranath Perera, General Secretary of CBWR witnessed and confirmed this feat as a World record.
The Cholan world record holder Thiruchelvam was felicitated with a framed certificate, a medal and a commemorative plaque by the Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devanatha.
This world record event was jointly organised by Cholan Book of World Record and People Helping People Foundation, a social welfare organisation.
It is noteworthy that Chelliah Thiruchelvam has already registered his name in the Cholan Book of World Records twice.
Today’s younger generation youths are lacking in skills and suffer from various physical and mental diseases. Some become addicted to drugs. Therefore, this Cholan world record holder Chellaiya Thiruchelvam said that this record attempt was made to raise awareness that one can live happily with physical and mental health even at the age of 60 by spending an hour daily in physical exercise.
