UK Rings in 2026 with Spectacular New Year Celebrations Across the Country

The UK welcomed 2026 with dazzling celebrations from London to Edinburgh, as thousands gathered to witness the country’s most spectacular New Year displays yet.

In the capital, London staged its biggest pyrotechnic show to date, with 12,000 fireworks illuminating the sky above the Thames. Around 100,000 spectators watched on as the iconic London Eye became the centerpiece of Europe’s largest firework display, accompanied by a star-studded soundtrack featuring Raye, Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran, and Coldplay. Celebrities including Celia Imrie, Andrew Cotter, and Alison Hammond lent their voices to the broadcast. The display celebrated some of 2025’s highlights, including England’s Women’s Rugby World Cup victory, the Lionesses’ Euros win, and Cynthia Erivo’s performance in Wicked: For Good.

London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan described the display as “legendary,” noting on X that the event conveyed a powerful message about “the importance of togetherness.”

Meanwhile, in Scotland, Edinburgh’s world-famous Hogmanay street party lit up the city as tens of thousands of revellers welcomed 2026. Following last year’s cancellation due to extreme weather, approximately 45,000 people attended the sold-out celebrations this year. Fireworks from the previous year’s cancelled event were recycled into this year’s display, providing an eco-friendly touch. The sky over Edinburgh Castle was illuminated by more than 10,000 fireworks, accompanied by performances from Scottish artists including Lewis Capaldi and Simple Minds, and concluding with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne by Skye duo Valtos.

Among the crowd were Liverpudlian family Cheryl and Terry Brown, celebrating alongside their seven-year-old son, Oliver. “We’ve celebrated in Belfast and London before, but Edinburgh’s party atmosphere keeps us coming back,” said Terry. International visitors also flocked to the Scottish capital, with friends Cosmio and Neal from New Jersey describing the Hogmanay energy as “a thousand times better” than New York’s Times Square celebrations.

Celebrations also took place across the country, from Belfast to Cardiff, Manchester, and Newcastle, ensuring that the New Year was welcomed nationwide with cheer and excitement.

However, the festivities come ahead of a cold snap, with the Met Office issuing yellow warnings for snow and ice across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. Colder Arctic air is expected to sweep across the UK on New Year’s Day, bringing significant snowfall to northern Scotland and icy conditions further south, from Chester and Greater Manchester to London and Kent.

From spectacular firework displays to street parties and family celebrations, the UK’s New Year festivities proved once again that welcoming 2026 can be both magical and memorable.
