Donald Trump praises King Charles III but criticises Keir Starmer in brief Sky News call
A brief phone conversation with Donald Trump revealed sharply contrasting views, as he praised King Charles III while strongly criticising UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The five-minute call took place shortly after Buckingham Palace announced details of the upcoming state visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla to the United States.
During the conversation, Trump spoke highly of the King, expressing admiration, but shifted tone when referring to the British government, offering sharp criticism of Starmer’s leadership.
He dismissed suggestions that his remarks could complicate the King’s visit, making it clear that he views the British royal family and political leadership as entirely separate.
Interestingly, Trump also indicated that he was unaware that the state visit had been arranged at the request of the UK government.
The call, which took place around 6:30pm on Tuesday, was informal and unplanned. According to the journalist, such interactions are typical of Trump’s unconventional communication style, where he may answer calls from known contacts without prior scheduling.
After answering with a simple greeting, Trump agreed to speak briefly and allowed his comments to be quoted, though he requested that the recording itself not be broadcast.
