LIVE Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei killed in major US-Israeli strikes
Iranian state media has confirmed that the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed in large-scale US-Israeli air strikes across Iran.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said Khamenei had been killed during coordinated military action targeting senior Iranian leadership. An intelligence source and a military source told the BBC’s US partner, CBS News, that around 40 Iranian officials were killed in the raids, including Khamenei. Israel previously said it had identified and killed seven senior officials.
Trump said the bombing campaign would continue, describing the moment as “the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their country,” signalling no immediate pause in operations.
In response, Iran launched attacks across the Middle East. Suspected Iranian strikes have been reported in Dubai, Doha, Bahrain and Kuwait — locations that host US military bases or are allied with Washington.
The humanitarian toll is mounting. Iran’s Red Crescent says more than 200 people have been killed nationwide. Iranian officials say at least 108 people died when US and Israeli strikes hit a girls’ school, though these figures have not been independently verified.
Tensions across the region remain extremely high, with fears of further escalation.
