LIVE US Submarine Sinks Iranian Warship in Indian Ocean, Defense Secretary Says
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that an American submarine sank an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean using a torpedo.
According to Hegseth, the Iranian vessel was operating in international waters and appeared to believe it was safe before it was struck. He did not identify the ship by name or provide additional operational details.
Earlier, Sri Lankan authorities reported that the Iranian Navy frigate IRIS Dena had gone down in the Indian Ocean. Local officials said rescue operations were underway after the vessel issued a distress call.
Initial reports indicated that around 140 personnel were believed to have been on board at the time of the sinking, with several listed as missing. Sri Lankan naval and air force units were involved in search and rescue efforts.
