Sri Lanka’s deputy foreign minister told local television that at least 80 people were killed following the strike, according to Reuters.

Earlier, a spokesperson for the Sri Lanka Navy said ship documentation indicated that approximately 180 personnel were on board the vessel at the time of the incident.

The navy also confirmed that 32 people were rescued after a distress call was received from the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena.

If the figures provided by the deputy foreign minister and the navy spokesperson are accurate, roughly 68 people remain unaccounted for.
