Teenager Seriously Injured in Fall from Third Floor of Kulim School Building
A 13-year-old student sustained severe injuries after falling from the third floor of a secondary school building in Kulim, Kedah, last Sunday, with police confirming the incident was linked to academic stress.
Kulim district police chief Syamsul Sinring stated that authorities were alerted by a 48-year-old teacher who discovered the boy lying near the staircase of Block E at approximately 3.40pm during the school recess, according to Berita Harian. Syamsul noted that the teacher found the victim conscious and capable of speech upon arriving at the scene, after which the student was transported to Kulim Hospital for medical attention.
Initial police inquiries revealed that the teenager deliberately fell from the third level due to intense academic pressure. Investigators found that the boy frequently measured his own scholastic performance against that of his older sister, who attends the same institution as a Form 4 student.
According to Syamsul, the boy explained that he felt overwhelmed by fear of failing to satisfy his parents' expectations during upcoming examinations scheduled for the following week. Police also discovered that several peers had viewed an Instagram story published by the victim the day prior to the fall, in which he expressed distress over his studies and family expectations. The social media update was subsequently deleted.
