Russia Ruling Party Secures Over 57% of Vote in Parliamentary Election
Russia’s ruling United Russia party has captured more than 57 percent of the vote in the country’s parliamentary election, according to preliminary figures released by the Central Election Commission on Monday, September 21.
With over 95 percent of ballots tabulated, the pro-presidential political force attained 57.83 percent support, reflecting a noticeable rise from the 49.8 percent it secured during the previous legislative race in 2021.
The early returns place the party on track to claim 355 seats in the 450-seat State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament. Securing this margin guarantees that the bloc will maintain its decisive constitutional majority, ensuring continued legislative backing for the Kremlin.
President Vladimir Putin had framed the national vote as a critical barometer of domestic public backing for Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine. Election officials emphasized that the figures released so far remain provisional, with the definitive tally scheduled for publication once all ballots are processed.
