Fairly Heavy Showers Expected in Several Provinces Today – Met Department Warns of Lightning and Strong Winds
Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to reduce the risks associated with temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory stating that fairly heavy showers are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka today (April 9). Southern Province is likely to experience showers or thundershowers at intervals throughout the day.
In addition to the South, other regions across the island may also receive rainfall during the afternoon or night. The Met Department further noted that fairly heavy rainfall, approximately 75 mm, is likely in Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces.
Meanwhile, the coastal regions of the Western Province and the Puttalam District could also receive morning showers. Misty conditions are expected in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces during the early hours.

The department also mentioned the apparent northward movement of the sun, which will be directly overhead various locations in Sri Lanka from April 5 to April 14. On April 9, the sun will be directly above areas including Uyangalla, Arangala, Kongahawela, Moragahakanda, and Batticaloa at around 12:12 p.m.
