Bogawanthalawa Bus Accident: 34 School Students Injured
A bus transporting school students from the Campion area to Bogawanthalawa town met with an accident around 7:40 AM today (April 28), according to police reports.
The accident occurred on the main Bogawanthalawa-Balangoda road at Kottiyakala. The bus, which was carrying students, suffered a mechanical failure, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle subsequently veered off the road and collided with an earth mound.
Approximately 34 students who were on board sustained injuries and have been admitted to the Bogawanthalawa District Hospital. Hospital sources confirmed that a number of these students have been transferred to the Dikoya Kelangan Base Hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the bus has been arrested in connection with the accident. Police in Bogawanthalawa have launched further investigations to determine the exact nature of the mechanical failure and any potential lapses in safety protocols.
