Today's Weather Update: Showers Expected in Several Provinces, Strong Winds in Other Areas
The Department of Meteorology has issued its latest weather bulletin for today (July 17), indicating a mixed pattern across the island. According to the forecast, residents in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces can expect a few showers at times, and similar conditions are likely to prevail in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts as well. However, for the remainder of the country, the department predicts predominantly dry weather throughout the day.
In addition to the rainfall outlook, the department has also warned of gusty winds in several regions. Strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are likely to occur intermittently in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Matale, Hambantota, and Trincomalee districts.
Authorities have urged people living in these affected zones to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, especially those engaged in outdoor activities or residing near weak structures. Fishermen heading out to sea are also advised to stay alert to the changing wind patterns and ensure their vessels are securely anchored. The department continues to monitor the situation and will issue further updates if conditions intensify.
