Sri Lanka Weather Today: Afternoon Thundershowers, 75mm Heavy Rain in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Other Provinces
Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur in most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. today (19), according to the Department of Meteorology. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces, as well as in the Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee and Mullaitivu districts.
Showers may also occur in the coastal areas of the Western and Northern provinces and in the Galle district during the morning, the Met. Department added. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Those in the affected areas are advised to remain alert, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours when thunderstorm activity tends to intensify, and to avoid open spaces and tall trees when lightning is present.
This pattern reflects typical inter-monsoonal afternoon thunderstorm activity, and the public is encouraged to stay updated with the latest forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology.
