Government Imposes Total Ban on Alcohol and Drugs at School-Branded Events
The government has enforced a comprehensive ban on the consumption and promotion of alcohol and illicit drugs at any event organized under a school’s name or official logo. Under this new policy, any gathering that features a school’s branding will legally be treated as a school event, bringing it directly under the scope of the prohibition.
Issued under Education Ministry Circular No. 2026/10, the directive grants the Secretary to the Ministry of Education the authority to immediately shut down any event that breaches these regulations. Ministry officials confirmed that the decision follows persistent complaints from parents regarding students facing exposure to intoxicating substances during high-profile cricket matches between leading schools.
An Education Ministry official stated that any event representing a school or utilizing its logo is strictly barred from promoting alcohol and drugs, emphasizing that school-branded functions must remain entirely substance-free. The ministry confirmed that authorities will enforce tight monitoring across all relevant gatherings, with particular scrutiny on major school cricket encounters.
