Several deaths reported due to Helicopter crash
The helicopter, which had taken off from the Hingurakgoda Air Force Base, was en route to a training session at the Maduru Oya Commando Army Base when it crashed into the Maduru Oya reservoir.

Five military personnel, including two Sri Lanka Air Force gunners and three Special Forces soldiers, have tragically lost their lives following the crash of a Bell 212 helicopter in the Maduru Oya area this morning.
The helicopter, which had taken off from the Hingurakgoda Air Force Base, was en route to a training session at the Maduru Oya Commando Army Base when it crashed into the Maduru Oya reservoir. The injured were rushed to the Polonnaruwa Hospital but succumbed to their injuries.
In response to the incident, Air Force Commander has appointed a nine-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, according to Air Force Media Spokesperson Wing Commander Eranda Geeganage.
UPDATE: Another Special Forces (SF) soldier who was onboard the Bell 212 Helicopter belonging to the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) that crashed into the Maduru Oya Reservoir this morning, has succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital, according to SLAF.
This brings the death toll from the fatal accident to six, while 6 other armed forces personnel, who sustained injuries in the incident, are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
