Indian Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan Meets Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo
Indian Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, currently on a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka, met Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo on Sunday.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the meeting focused on strengthening the long-standing and multifaceted relationship between the two countries. The discussions highlighted the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties shared by India and Sri Lanka, while exploring ways to further enhance cooperation across various sectors.
During the talks, the Vice President reaffirmed India’s commitment to its “Neighbourhood First” policy, emphasizing continued collaboration for mutual growth and regional stability. Both leaders engaged in productive discussions aimed at expanding bilateral partnerships for the benefit of both nations.
Key areas of discussion included ongoing development initiatives supported by India in Sri Lanka, such as the Indian Housing Project. Progress on projects funded under the USD 450 million assistance package for regions affected by Cyclone Ditwah was also reviewed.
As part of his visit, C. P. Radhakrishnan is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, the Leader of the Opposition, and representatives of Tamil political groups. He will also visit Nuwara Eliya, where a significant Indian-origin Tamil community resides.
During his visit to Nuwara Eliya, the Vice President is expected to interact with local communities, inspect housing projects developed under India’s assistance programs, and visit the Seetha Amman Temple.
The visit is seen as an important step in further strengthening India–Sri Lanka relations, particularly in enhancing economic cooperation, development partnerships, and people-to-people connections.
