India T20 World Cup Squad Announcement: Preview, Live Streaming Details
Gill’s situation has once again fuelled speculation around wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, who was overlooked in favour of Gill for the home series but remains a contender.
The Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, along with the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, will be finalised on Saturday, December 20, 2025. The selection meeting will take place at the headquarters of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Mumbai and will be followed by a media briefing.
The Ajit Agarkar-led national selection committee is scheduled to meet at the Cricket Centre building near the Wankhede Stadium. After the deliberations, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav will address the press. Their presence at the press conference effectively confirms Suryakumar’s continuation as captain, despite his recent struggles with the bat.
Vice-captain Shubman Gill is also going through a lean phase in T20 cricket, averaging 24.25 from 15 matches this year, with a top score of 47. Adding to India’s selection headache, Gill is currently recovering from a toe injury sustained during practice ahead of the fourth India vs South Africa T20I in Lucknow, which was abandoned due to dense fog. His availability for the fifth and final match in Ahmedabad remains uncertain, and selectors may need to assess his fitness carefully before finalising the World Cup squad.

India currently lead the ongoing T20I series 2–1 and boast an outstanding record in the format over the last two years. The team has lost just five of its last 46 T20 internationals, highlighting its dominance before and after lifting the T20 World Cup title in 2024.
The 10th edition of the ICC T20 World Cup will be held from February 7 to March 8, 2026, across eight venues in India and Sri Lanka. India are drawn in Group A alongside Pakistan, USA, Netherlands, and Namibia, and will begin their campaign against the USA in Mumbai on February 7.
