The department further warns of fairly heavy rainfall reaching around 50mm in localized areas, especially within the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva Provinces.

Colombo, April 14 – The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers across most parts of the island today, particularly during the afternoon and night. Morning showers are also expected in the Western Province and in the districts of Galle, Matara, Puttalam, and Batticaloa.
The department further warns of fairly heavy rainfall reaching around 50mm in localized areas, especially within the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva Provinces.
Residents are urged to exercise caution as temporary strong winds and lightning strikes are possible during thundershowers. The public is advised to take preventive measures to minimize weather-related damages, particularly in vulnerable and flood-prone areas.
Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department also noted that the sun will be directly overhead parts of the island today as part of its apparent northward movement, a phenomenon occurring from April 5 to 14. Areas expected to experience this today around 12:10 p.m. include Delft, Pooneryn, Elephant Pass, and Chundikulam.
