Colombo, April 23 – Dan Priyasad, the convenor of the “Nawa Sinhale National Movement” and a prominent political activist, has died from injuries sustained during a shooting incident in Wellampitiya on the night of April 22.
According to hospital sources, Priyasad was rushed to the Colombo National Hospital after being shot multiple times. Despite emergency medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission. Reports confirm that he had sustained four gunshot wounds—two to the chest and two to the shoulder.
The shooting occurred at the ‘Laksanda Sevana’ Housing Complex in Wellampitiya. Eyewitnesses claim that two assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire with a pistol before fleeing the scene. A second individual who was present during the incident sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Police investigators are actively working on the case, with Wellampitiya Police leading the investigation. No arrests have been made so far, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
